Soelbergs opens its new Grantsville store Thursday
A bigger grocery store, an Ace Hardware, a pharmacy and a coffee house now share one roof on Matthews Lane. Doors open at 9 AM on Oct. 22.
Grantsville’s hometown grocery store is moving up the road. Soelbergs Market opens its new store at 274 S. Matthews Lane this Thursday, Oct. 22. The grand opening starts at 9 AM.
It’s more than a bigger grocery store. The new building covers about 60,000 square feet and puts four local stops under one roof.
Under one roof
- Soelbergs Market, the grocery store itself, at 46,600 square feet
- Ace Hardware, at 12,480 square feet
- Birch Family Pharmacy
- Beans & Brews Coffee House
Grab a coffee, pick up a prescription, find the right screws and do the week’s shopping, all in one stop.
Built on Grantsville’s story
Soelbergs goes back more than 120 years here. Danish immigrant Karl Soelberg started working at Grantsville’s Co-op store in 1905. That start grew into Soelbergs Market, which Carol and David Jefferies own today.
Carol says the new store was designed, inside and out, to tie back to those roots. You’ll see it as you walk around:
- The farm-style building has a silo where you can sit down and eat.
- The departments around the outside of the store are named for places from Grantsville’s history.
- The aisles carry the names of some of the town’s first streets.
Why a new store?
The Main Street store went up in 1989. It fit the town back then. Grantsville is now a city of about 16,000 people, and the old building had gotten too small.
The Soelbergs in Stansbury Park, open on Highway 36 since 2011, isn’t part of the move.
